After a protracted period of political turmoil in the US, the states of Oregon and Washington initiated seceded from the union and formed the Republic of the Pacific North West (RPNW). Initially the independence of these two states, saw little resistance. The deteriorating political situation in the US and numerous overseas crises, found the government in no position to mount anything more than a formal protest. The RPNW used the confusion of unrest in California to further stretch the resources of the federal government. About 6 months after its formation, the two states mobilized their respective national guard units. Federal troops were given safe passage to an adjoining state and all remaining military personnel were allowed to join the newly formed army of the RPNW.
